The House We Made

Submission for GMTK Game Jam 2024

The House We Made is a PSX style meta escape room/point and click puzzle game where you build and explore a toy house to escape the room you are trapped in.

It was developed as a team project in 4 days to meet the jam deadline. I met the two other members of the team through searching on the GMTK discord and this was our first time working together. My main responsibility was modelling and texturing the 3D assets. but I also helped with design and organising playtesting and bug reports in the last two days of the jam.

Technologies used:

  • Unity: Chosen Game Engine
  • Blender: 3D Modelling
  • Autodesk Maya: 3D Modelling
  • Adobe Photoshop: Texturing
  • Aseprite: Texturing
  • Github: Collaboration and back-ups

This was a very different experience to my previous projects as it was my first team project and my first project completed under such a short timescale. I’m very proud of the atmosphere of the game and I learned a lot about collaboration and communication with other team members, especially as we all had different time zones. I feel my QA responsibilities also grew my skillset a lot, as I was in charge of finding playtesters, asking them questions, and going through their footage to refine the design of the puzzles and tooltips.

It came in 611st place overall out of 7601 entries, meaning it was in the top 10% of all submissions. We’re hoping to expand on the project at some point in the future.
